Archival giclée prints
From the French word gicleur, the French technical term for a jet or a nozzle, and the associated verb gicler (to squirt out) Giclée is a term used to describe the process of printing with inkjet printers, particularly with pigment inks. Giclée Prints are not the same as posters or other lower cost art prints, which may be created using lower quality materials (for example dye inks, papers with lower life expectancy, etc) – those prints may only last a couple of years before showing signs of aging. Given the proper care, your Giclée prints should last a lifetime.
All of the prints sold on this site are made with the highest quality materials. I print myself, in studio, on a professional Epson pigment ink printer on specialty fine art paper. All packaging materials including mats, backing boards etc. are acid free so that you can store the print as is without worry, or transfer the mat and backing board to a frame of your choice. Beware of lower cost mats and frames – cheap mat board can ruin a fine print by causing it to yellow! In general, if you are going to source your own ready made frame, I advise that you throw out the mat that comes with it, and use the mat that I can supply for you. Alternatively, your local framer can give you good advise on which type of mat should be used. However small, these prints are still an investment and I want you and your family to enjoy them for many years to come.
Some artists choose to make Limited Edition prints – which because they are limited in number are sold at a much higher cost and may become more valuable for collectors. I choose the Open Edition model so that I can keep the cost of the prints down, and make my art more budget friendly. They are the same quality that would be used for a limited edition, but they are not numbered (that and the price are the only difference!). I do sign each and every print by hand and include Certificates of Authenticity.
When selecting your print, you may choose from the following options:
* Size – as small as 4×4, as big as 16×20 (varies by artwork)
* Presentation – choose just the print or include a standard size mat. Or you could choose to receive your print fully framed and ready to hang.
Unmatted prints may be sent in flat packaging or rolled in a tube. Tubes reduce the cost of shipping for larger pieces, and also provide additional protection against damage.
Matted and Framed prints will be boxed with appropriate padding to protect the work.
