The Great Blue Herons migrate each year to make their nests in the salt marsh beside my home.

I watch them from my studio window – effortlessly gliding over the still water on a foggy day, wading along the shore hunting for their next meal. Their movements are all so graceful and free, and watching them imparts a feeling of serenity.

I live by a salt marsh, fed by various and numerous estuaries, and by the quiet harbour. It influences me heavily - I love to look out onto the water as I work, or just sit and think. The original artwork was created using multiple layers of collage, acrylic paint, and ink on a 35x35cm square wood panel. Reproduced with attention to detail, this print is at first glance quiet, but on closer inspection is filled with many many small details, and a lot of activity. In this, it is much like the salt marsh and its bountiful life .
